LG is finally bringing Google Assistant to its 2018 OLED and SUPER UHD TVs with ThinQ AI. The South Korean electronics major had announced its plan to enable Google Assistant on TVs at CES early this year, and is finally delivering the experience this month. With Google Assistant on LG TVs, users need not invest in devices like Google Home or Google Home Mini. Also Read - Google Pixel 4a India launch on October 17: Check specifications, features

On LG’s 2018 range of ThinQ AI-based OLED and SUPER UHD TVs, Google Assistant will be accessible directly from the TV’s remote control without the need for additional hardware. The announcement is part of Google’s effort to bring Assistant to more devices in addition to smartphones, wearables, speakers and headphones. Google Assistant is integrated with LG’s webOS to deliver an intuitive AI experience that uses natural language commands to control TV functions. With Assistant, LG TV users will be able to seamlessly discover and play content and control their TV settings. Users can also ask it to help manage daily tasks, access information and control compatible smart home devices including lighting, and other connected appliances.

“By adding the Google Assistant to the webOS platform of LG’s 2018 AI TVs, the advanced machine learning and natural language processing technologies that Google is known for will simplify life for consumers worldwide. LG’s implementation reflects the importance the company places on creating and providing a more complete, accessible and diverse range of AI services,” the company said in a statement.

With Google Assistant, LG’s 2018 ThinQ AI TVs can perform hundreds of voice commands utilizing the company’s own smart platform. Additionally, it also simplifies searching for content and retrieve information or switch to a channel that offers the content requested by the viewer. LG OLED TVs and LG SUPER UHD TVs with ThinQ AI, and the Google Assistant will be available in the United States starting this month and will follow to other markets.

At I/O 2018, Google Assistant turned out to be the showstopper with the digital assistant getting six new voices and support for voice parity that matches humans. It also gained support for a new feature called Duplex that uses machine learning to place phone calls on your behalf and book appointments. Amazon and Google are battling it out to build the best digital assistant and things will only get interesting from here on.
