LG is making sure everything goes right with its upcoming flagship smartphone the G6. The South Korean electronics giant has had a rough past year with profits falling in three quarters in a row. Its last flagship smartphone, the G5, failed to raise the company s profits with many wrong decisions taken like steep pricing and a poor implementation of the modular functionality. Things might take a different turn with the G6 as the company has announced it will not be experimenting with the modular technology as it did with the G5. At the ongoing CES 2017, the Wall Street Journal quotes Skott Ahn, Chief Technologist, LG as saying, Spinning off the smartphone division is not something we would consider. The report further states that LG s decision to scrap the modular technology from the G6 comes from its consumers feedback of not being interested in modular phones. LG has also not been successful in convincing its customers to purchase additional modules for the G5 smartphone. Having decided to remove the modular functionality from the G6, LG is said to focus more on the smartphone s design and use, according to a LG spokesperson. LG launched the G5 last year with swappable modules, called LG Friends. These modules include the CAM Plus, the LG 360 CAM module, the Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play module, the 360 VR module and the LG Rolling Bot module.
Quite recently, there was a report by The Investor suggesting that LG will price the G6 20 percent lesser than the G5 hoping to actually make profits with the flagship smartphone. However, the WSJ report suggests that LG is expected to be price the G6 around the same as it with the G5 that shuffles around $500 (approximately Rs 34,000) to $600 (approximately Rs 40,000). The smartphone is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress in February, and would be launched in North America, Europe and South Korea initially. It is also said that the LG G6 smartphone would be available in China online. ALSO READ: LG G6 rumored to be lesser expensive than the LG G5
