After launching its flexible G Flex last year, today LG took the wraps off its successor, the G Flex 2. The smartphone was unveiled at CES, and it is an impressive update over its predecessor. The new smartphone is not only smaller, but also weighs less than its predecessor. The G Flex 2 boasts dimensions of 149.1×75.3mm, as compared to the 160.5×81.6mm on the G Flex. As for weight, the new smartphone weighs 152 grams, while the older smartphone weighs 177 grams.
The company also claims that the G Flex 2 s healing capabilities have been improved and it can regain its shape in about 10 seconds, as compared to three minutes on the earlier phone.
Display
As mentioned above, the G Flex 2 is smaller than before and so is the display. It features a 5.5-inch display, as compared to the 6-inch display on the predecessor. The resolution too has been bumped up from 720p to 1080p, which also improves the pixel density from 245ppi to 403ppi.
Additionally, the company also claims that the flexible display is now 20 percent more durable than before.
Power
The new smartphone also gets a big boost in power. While the previous-generation phone was not short on power with its Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, the G Flex 2 has a monster 2GHz Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with 64-bit capabilities. Both the processors are paired with 2GB of RAM respectively.
Storage
The G Flex only came with one storage option 32GB. The G Flex 2 however comes with 16GB and 32GB options, which also can be further expanded using a microSD card.
Cameras
While on paper, both the devices feature similar cameras 13-megapixel, 2.1-megapixel LG has improved the snappers on the new smartphone. The 13-megapixel camera on the G Flex 2 comes with dual-flash, OIS+ as well as laser autofocus, which was first introduced on the LG G3.
The front camera has been similarly improved with features like Gesture Shot and View feature that allows you to take a selfie up to 1.5m from your face.
Battery
LG has opted for a smaller battery on the G Flex 2 3,000mAh as compared to 3,500mAh. But the new smartphone comes with features like Fast charging mode, which according to the company makes it possible to charge the battery to 50 percent in less than 45 minutes.
Software
On the software front, the G Flex 2 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. While the G Flex was launched with Jelly Bean on board, it is one of the smartphones that is scheduled to get the Lollipop update as well.
