2013 was not a banner year for LG s smartphone business. After gaining some ground in the highly competitive market, sales of LG s flagship G2 smartphone last year completely bombed. A report suggested the company sold just 2.3 million G2 handsets total through early December after forecasting sales totaling 3 million units in Q3 alone, and it left industry watchers wondering if there is any hope left for LG s smartphone business. Well, we may soon find out. Also Read - iPhone 14 details leak even before the launch of iPhone 13, to bring this crucial feature
A report from Korean-language Naver claims that LG is preparing to launch its next-generation LG G3 flagship phone in mid-May this year, possibly on May 17th in Korea. That timing could be absolutely devastating, however, with Samsung s next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, likely scheduled to be announced in March and released in April.
LG will still look to finally make a dent in Samsung s armor with the G3, which Naver claims will feature a display with 2K resolution (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) that measures 5.5 inches diagonally. Earlier rumors also suggested it will include a 16-megapixel camera and a quad- or eight-core LG Odin processor.
Let s hope it brings more innovation to the table this time around than power and volume buttons that have been moved to the back of the device.
