The LG G5 has been leaked hours before the South Korean company could unveil it at MWC 2016. The much-awaited flagship smartphone features a metal body and a unique modular design, which LG claims will allow users to transform the G5 into a hi-fi player, a digital camera and much more. With the CAM Plus, users can attach a camera module which offers DSLR like convenient controls. Uses get to control the exposure, auto-focus and includes physical buttons for power, record, zoom and photo shutter. The module also includes an additional 1.200mAh battery. The other module converts the G5 into a portable Hi-Fi audio player, which LG has developed in collaboration with B&O Play. It supports high-definition audio playback of audio files encoded in 32-bit, 384KHz.
LG is likely to showcase other modules such as 360 CAM, 360 VR, Rolling Bot and Smart Controller among others.
The G5 also features an always-on display that lets you check the battery status, time and notifications without unlocking the phone. As only a section of the backlit display illuminates, it hardly drains 0.8 percent of battery every hour, LG claims.
LG G5 specifications and features: The smartphone flaunts a 5.3-inch QHD display running at a resolution of 2560x1440pixels and pixel density of 554ppi. Under the hood, you have Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion.
In the photography department, the LG G5 boasts two rear cameras, one with a standard 78-degree lens and other is a 135-degree wide angle lens, which LG claims will help users in capturing larger groups, tall buildings and landscapes. For selfie lovers, a front-facing 8-megapixel unit is also present.
Other features include a removable 2,800mAh battery, USB Type-C 2.0 port, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. It runs on Google’s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The G5 will be available in four different colors, silver, gold, pink and silver.
As of now, there is no word on the pricing and availability of the G5, but we will get more details as and when they become available. Till then, stay tuned.
