After multiple visits to the rumor mills lately, the LG G6 has now made a visit to the speculation town. The latest leak about the LG G6 is purportedly the first look of the smartphone. The G6 renders have been revealed by @ShaiMizrachi, who has a record of producing quite accurate renders of both LG and Samsung smartphones. The leaked renders show off the LG G6 design very similar to this year s flagship G5. The render reveals a dual-camera setup in back and a fingerprint scanner placed underneath it. Renders also reveal the tonnage of the device, which is 149.4 x 73.9 x 8.2 mm. In addition to these renders, we know that LG G6 will come with waterproof capabilities on its display frame as well as the outer layer. The waterproof material that is said to come with the LG G6 will not only stick to the display frame but is said to be extended till the USB connector, earphone terminal and also the camera cover glass.
Also, the LG G6 will retain the 3.5mm audio jack, use a non-removable battery and opt for glass hardware. This news came from tweets by journalist David Ruddock. According to him, the LG G6 will integrate the battery into the smartphone, which would make it non-removable. This decision, if true, is surprising considering LG is among rare brands to offer metal phones with interchangeable batteries, like the LG V20. That said, the decision may also have been taken due to failure of the LG G5, which came ‘semi-modular’ functionality. ALSO READ: LG G6 rumored to feature metal-glass design, ditch removable battery
LG could also add some changes to the hardware of the G6. The rear panel of the G6 is said to come with a highly reflective metallic material on the rear. LG could be heading into the direction of hardware that Samsung follows which is a mix of metal and glass body for its smartphones.
Furthermore, the LG G6 is expected to come with wireless charging capability, which currently is highly expected in Samsung s Galaxy S8 and Apple s iPhone 8 as well. LG is also rumored to launch and integrate a payment system in the G6 that will be at par with Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Adding to this, the LG G6 is also expected to feature an iris scanner. Korea s Digital Bakjeongil Times quotes an LG Innotek official saying that LG is planning an integrated iris recognition module mounted on smartphones. LG s iris scanning facility will however not be like the Samsung Galaxy note 7 s which uses a dedicated second camera in the front for iris scanning. LG plans to combine both into a single, one being the selfie camera and the other would be a dedicated iris scanner.
Regarding its display, the LG G6 had earlier been rumored to come with a 5.3-inch curved OLED screen but new reports have suggested that it would be a flat screened QHD display at 5.3-inch, as on the LG G5. The LG G6 is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2017 in February and go on sale by March.
