While the LG V20 just made it to India yesterday, LG’s next flagship smartphone, rumored as the G6, is already making headline. While we have heard and seen a bunch of details leaked around the LG G5 successor, some more info about the smartphone has now been revealed. The latest rumor suggests that LG is considering using a waterproof adhesive on its display frame. Also, the waterproof material is being added to the USB connector, earphone terminal and camera cover glass for waterproofing the device. Besides that, not long ago, it was revealed that the LG G6 will feature an iris scanner. Citing an LG Innotek official, Korea s Digital Bakjeongil Times reports that LG is planning an integrated iris recognition module mounted on smartphones. Unlike the Galaxy Note 7, which used a dedicated second camera in the front for iris scanning, LG s will combine both into a single module, that is the front camera and the one for iris scanning capability. For both functions to coexist in the same scanner, LG is likely to add some sort of filter to it.
In addition to that, rumors suggest that LG G6 may not come with a curved OLED screen, which could mean that the G6 may come with a flat 5.3-inch QHD display similar to the G5. Further, with the G5, LG made a big bet on modular functionality, which was also one of its key selling points. However, adding those modules or replacing them is quite cumbersome, as one has to turn off the device and remove the module from the bottom. The LG G5 hasn t seen the success as its competitors the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge and OnePlus 3 among others. It looks like customers aren t sold into the idea of LG s modular functionality. The recently launched V20 has skipped the modular functionality, but as it s a different line altogether, the G6 may pick up where the G5 left off. However, citing multiple representatives from multiple industries, Korea s ETNews reports that the LG G6 may lack modular functionality.
