MWC 2018 is still more than a month away, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mills from spilling beans over the specifications and features of the upcoming smartphones. LG is widely expected to unveil its G7 smartphone at the trade show. Now, while there are rumors that LG will do away with the G-series branding, the G7 could yet be the last smartphone in the series.

A lot has already been leaked about the LG G6 successor, and now a newly leaked render (courtesy TigerMobiles) sheds some light on what to expect. The leaked render hints at the possible design of the LG G7. From what we can see, there is a dual camera module on the top, just above the display. It is not sure if the dual cameras will be to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your selfies or activate wide-angle mode for group selfies.

LG is also expected to bring 3D facial recognition, just like the one on the Apple iPhone X, and the dual front camera modules could be used for that. Secondly, the leak also shows thinner top and bottom bezels, compared to the LG G6. In fact, the bottom bezel is so tiny in the leaked render, that it is difficult to even make out if there is one. In the run up to the launch event, we expect more leaks and renders to pour in, which would give us even clearer idea on what to expect.

At CES 2018, LG’s Vice Chairman Cho Sung-jin announced that the company is moving away from regular smartphone launch cycle, and that it will only unveil a new smartphone when needed. However, he also mentioned that the company plans to retain existing models by unveiling more variants.

LG also filed two new trademarks – ‘icon’ for smartphones and ‘iconic’ for smartwatches. This could be a hint that LG’s next flagship smartphone may be called icon and the next-gen smartwatch could be called iconic. While other details are awaited, we will have wait until MWC 2018 to see what LG plans to unveil.
