LG recently announced a series of smartphones under the LG Q series, and the phones are more budget variants of the 2017 LG flagship, the LG G6. Traditionally, LG announced a mini version of the flagship smartphone but this year, LG has introduced three new models or rather, a new mini series under the LG Q6 moniker. Of the LG Q6, LG Q6+ and LG Q6 , the LG Q6 is the most basic. The three devices share multiple features, and also borrow heavily from the LG G6. The features and specifications of the LG Q6 were already announced by the company during launch, but now the first promotional video by LG showcases the display in detail. Clearly, the highlight of all three phones is the 18:9 aspect ratio FullVision display. The smartphone is seen flaunting the 18:9 aspect ratio display in videos too. The promotional video is a long, detailed one, and talks of not just the display, but also other aspects of the smartphone like the size and the ability to operate it one-handed. However, the FullVision display stays the highlight. LG has long since moved away from the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, and instead opted for taller 18:9 ratio display, with more screen-to-body ratio. The LG Q6 series, just like LG G6, comes with 80 percent screen-to-body ratio. But the one feature the phones lack is a curved edge display. The taller display also gives the phone the ability to split the display into two equal halves — so the user gets two perfect square screens for multitasking. The video harps on the functionality carried forward to the video and camera app, letting the user merge two shots, and take one or click two separate photos. It also provides the functionality of grabbing a screenshot while shooting a video or creating a collage using multiple screenshot grabs. The picture can then be used as a thumbnail for the video. The promotional video opens with a close-up of the LG Q6 camera, and along with the display features, a lot of camera functionalities like Burst mode are also highlighted. The video also talks about the facial recognition technology for unlocking the device as well as the timer in selfie camera. The camera app comes with filters to edit images and videos instantly or make live changes to videos. Another thing the video talks about is the durability of the smartphone. While the LG Q6 is sleek and easy to operate with one-hand, it comes with curved edges that are sturdy. The smartphone is encased in a metal frame made using ultra-strong 7000 series aluminum that can withstand high impact and also shocks. LG Q6 has been put through multiple durability tests. The smartphone runs Google Assistant out-of-the-box.
LG Q6 specifications, features
Talking of LG Q6 specifications, the phone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD+ (1080p) FullVision display. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 435 chipset paired with 3GB RAM. The internal memory is 32GB. LG Q6+ and LG Q6 share the same processor, but come with 64GB/4GB storage, and 16GB/2GB storage instead. The smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. The device comes with a 13-megapixel rear end camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. A 3,000mAh battery provides juice to run the smartphone. The series is yet to debut in India and is expected to come to the country in August.
