LG says that the center will not only develop and deliver regular OS updates but also ensure a consistent user experience is delivered to LG device users. It will be responsible for testing the stability and compatibility between hardware and software after updates. The center will also enable LG to roll out OS updates faster in specific countries so as to offer the similar experience as global consumers. Regular software updates are key for a brand to retain its rapport among consumers. However, LG has not been strong in this aspect. For instance, the LG G6, which launched last year, is yet to receive Android Oreo. As Android Central reports, LG devices have struggled with getting the updates consistently. The company has also faced criticism over software reliability.
With the new center, LG aims to fix these issues. It is aimed at making LG more accountable for the user experience by testing the updates’ stability and compatibility.
First and foremost, the center will accelerate the release of Android Oreo to the LG G6. This is expected to be done prior to the release of the next-in-line LG G7 ThinQ. LG is promising that the update will be rolled out by the end of April in South Korea, with other markets to follow soon.
