December was another busy month for smartphone makers with LG, Huawei’s Honor, Chinese smartphone makers Oppo and OnePlus all launching their new devices in the Indian market. This month also saw the launch of Vision 3 from InFocus, which is now the cheapest smartphone in the market to feature a display with 18:9 aspect ratio. One of the biggest highlight came from an expected player. The global e-commerce giant Amazon launched a new budget smartphone in collaboration with Tenor called 10.or D. OnePlus also made sound with the launch of its OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition smartphone. That phone has all the force one would need. LG finally launched its flagship V30+ smartphone in India. The smartphone was first announced in late August at IFA 2017 conference in Berlin. The smartphone is LG’s most direct competitor to Samsung Galaxy Note8 and Apple iPhone X and the South Korean smartphone maker surprised everyone with its aggressive pricing.
LG V30+ features a 6-inch Quad HD+ P-OLED display with metal and glass design and thin bezels similar to G6. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It features dual rear camera setup with 16-megapixel optically stabilized primary lens and a 13-megapixel secondary wide-angle lens. It also sports a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture.
LG V30+ features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor which also doubles up as power button and runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The smartphone includes connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and is backed by a 3,300mAh battery with fast charging support.

InFocus Vision 3
InFocus, the American smartphone maker backed by Foxconn, is taking a headstart by launching the cheapest smartphone with 18:9 display. This year has been all about getting rid of those thick bezels and packing a taller display for smartphone makers. InFocus is bringing that same philosophy to budget smartphone segment.
In terms of features, it sports a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by MediaTek MT6737 chipset. The smartphone comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. It also offers dual rear cameras with one 13-megapixel image sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor. The selfie department is taken care of by an 8-megapixel shooter. InFocus Vision 3 also packs a large 4,000mAh battery that can last two full days.
In terms of specifications and features, the Vision 3 seems really capable for its Rs 6,999 price tag but fails to deliver well rounded experience in real-life. The camera fails to impress and performance is also lacklustre. Read our full review of InFocus Vision 3 here.
The 10.or D is the first smartphone to launch under “Crafted for Amazon” bandwagon. Amazon says the ‘Crafted for Amazon” are designed taking into account every feature that consumers on its e-commerce platform want in a particular price segment. With 10.or D, Amazon is competing with Xiaomi Redmi 5A, which is currently the best budget smartphone in the market.
The 10.or D features a 5.2-inch HD display and is powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset. It comes in two storage variants: a 2GB RAM model with 16GB storage and a 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage. It boasts of a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
The dual-SIM smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor and starts at Rs 4,999. The 10.or D will go on its first sale on January 5.
The Honor 7X is the newest addition to Honor’s wide range of smartphones with thin-bezel design and 18:9 display. The smartphone features aluminum unibody design and sports a big 5.93-inch display with Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by Kirin 659 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and option for either 32GB or 64GB internal storage.
Huawei pioneered dual rear camera setup and Honor 7X features dual rear cameras with 16-megapixel primary lens and a 2-megapixel secondary lens. OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition
OnePlus 5T is one of the best premium mid-range smartphone right now but it lacks the force. So the company has launched OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition. The major differentiation comes in the design department and it serves as one of the must buy gadget for the fans of one of the greatest film series ever. Oppo F5 Youth
Oppo F5 Youth is the newest addition to Chinese smartphone maker’s F5 series. It is priced at Rs 16,999 and features a 16-megapixel selfie camera as opposed to 20-megapixel camera found on regular Oppo F5. The smartphone features a 6-inch Full HD+ display, MediaTek Helio P23 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 13-megapixel rear camera.
The smartphone runs ColorOS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat and it packs a 3,200mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt 3GB RAM variant
Samsung has updated its Galaxy J7 Nxt series with a new model that offers more memory that the existing model. The Galaxy J7 Nxt 3GB RAM variant features 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display and is powered by an octa-core SoC with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.
It also gets a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 5-megapixel front facing camera for selfies and video calling. The smartphone houses a 3,000mAh battery and is priced at Rs 11,490. For Samsung, the Galaxy J series delivers volume in terms of sale and this new addition will help it stay competitive against Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and other similarly priced smartphone offerings.
Panasonic Eluga I9
Panasonic announced the launch of Eluga I9 exclusively on Flipkart at Rs 7,499. The smartphone features a 5-inch HD display, quad-core MediaTek processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. It features a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is available for purchase in Space Grey, Champagne Gold, and Blue color variants.
Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro
Micromax was one of the first to launch a budget smartphone with 18:9 display in India and this month it introduced a new offering called Canvas Infinity Pro. As the name implies, the Canvas Infinity Pro is an enhanced version of Canvas Infinity and brings improvements in key areas like imaging, memory and performance.
The Canvas Infinity Pro features a 5.7-inch HD+ display and is powered by Snapdragon 430 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The device offers dual front camera system with 20-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor. It also sports a 16-megapixel rear camera. The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery and runs Android Nougat. The smartphone is priced at Rs 13,999 and is available from Flipkart.
Micromax Bharat 5
Micromax Bharat 5, the successor to Bharat 4 was launched early this month at Rs 5,555. The smartphone available via offline retail channels features a 5.2-inch display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage. The smartphone runs Android Nougat and offers 10GB additional data for existing Vodafone customers.
It sports a 5-megapixel camera at the front as well as rear and packs a massive 5,000mAh battery. Micromax says it aims to sell more than 6 million Bharat series smartphones by March 2018.
