After Apple’s “Shot on an iPhone”, it is time for “Shot on Pixel 2”. Celebrated American musician John Legend released his latest wedding song “A Good Night“. The fun song sure has all of us singing along, but the biggest reveal is that the video has been recorded entirely on the Google Pixel 2.
Modern cinematography has reached high levels levels thanks to the advanced cameras that even hand-held smartphones come equipped with. The Google Pixel 2, with one of the highest scores for photography and video, achieves a score of 99 for photography on the DxoMark and 96 for video. Testing the camera prowess of the Pixel 2, the whole video of Legend’s new wedding song was captured using the smartphone, and we are not complaining.
On the Google blog, Legend reveals what inspired him to use a smartphone for his new video and reveals some behind-the-screen actions as well. The video uses references of Tinder, when it comes to swiping for the ‘right match’. Legend says, “We thought it would be cool to shoot it on the Pixel because the camera is amazing and we were fascinated by the idea of using a smartphone to film a big budget music video, a video that brings the smartphone dating experience to life.”
In case you missed it, both my new song #AGoodNight and the music video for it came out Friday! The video was filmed entirely on #GooglePixel2, thanks @MadebyGoogle! Watch the whole thing here: https://t.co/lDZl3owVFK #ad pic.twitter.com/q6HhHAkl4c

In Legend’s words, recording the video with smartphones is “seamless”. He says, “We’re so used to doing everything with expensive cameras when we do these major shoots. But the experience of filming with smartphones felt really natural and the quality from Pixel was amazing.”
With newer smartphones getting advanced cameras, it has become easier for publishers, vloggers, and the new-age influencers to record videos on-the-go, without compromising on the sound or video quality output. This also echoes with the increased consumption of videos through smartphones.
Legend says that such kind of technology is a “boon for creativity and gives so many more people the ability to tell their story and express their vision.”
The self-confessed “Google fan” further reveals that he uses the Pixel to talk to his family, for capturing photos and videos. The popular musician further reveals that he uses Duo for video calling. “It’s also nice to have a phone that integrates all Google apps so seamlessly. I use Google Docs, Maps, Drive, Calendar and others all the time. It’s great to have a phone made for those apps,” Legend reveals.

Clearly, Legend and Google have a sound working relationship. A behind-the-scenes video reveals how the Pixel 2 was used to shoot the music video. More than half of the video is shot in low-light, and we must admit, the Pixel 2 has been able to retain details, irrespective of the erratic lights inside the club.
