Line today announced that it had crossed 300 million global users, which is a near 20 million jump inside a month. Earlier this month, when announcing its third quarter earnings for 2013, the messaging app had 280 million users globally.
The 300 million milestone comes four months after the messaging app crossed 200 million and seven months after crossing 150 million. In India, where it launched earlier this year, the app has over 10 million users and seeing the growth, the company expects to cross 20 million users by the end of 2013. In order to achieve this, Line has been busy on the advertising front and has hired Bollywood actoress Katrina Kaif as its brand ambassador in India. It has also tied up with many smartphone vendors to have the messenger pre-installed on their devices.
One must remember that 300 million is the total number of users and Line doesn’t reveal the number of users who are active every month. Its biggest rival WhatsApp, on the other hand, has not such qualms and recently revealed that it had crossed 350 million monthly active users globally, with more than 25 million active users in India alone.
