FaceID is the primary method to lock/unlock the iPhones. When compared to smartphones in the Android world, the security feature on the iPhones is not only fast, but highly accurate as well. Since the launch of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the most commonly reported problem is that of charging. The users of new iPhone models have reported that the devices do not charge even when the lightning cable is plugged in and the screen is turned off. The issue is caused by a framework where Apple disables the lightning port after a certain time.
In order to charge, iPhone users were required to make sure that the lightning cable is plugged in and the screen is turned on for charging to begin. While the problem is not specific to iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max and affects all iOS devices running iOS 12, it is important to know before you purchase the new models. Faulty Green Line on the OLED Display
Apple finally decided to switch from LCD display to OLED panels with the launch of iPhone X last year. This year, Apple is offering two devices with OLED displays in the form of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. While OLED displays are known to burn in and offer a blue tinge but they are not prone to issues early in their shelf life.
However, a user in Australia has reported that his brand new iPhone XS Max came with a faulty display. The device, in question, showed a green line arising from the top to the bottom of the device. Apple is likely to replace the faulty display under warranty if it confirms the issue is not caused by user negligence. It is recommended that you check your new iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max for any such issues before using it.
Beauty Gate: Selfie Camera Issue
Even before the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max went on sale, most critics have observed that the new iPhone models have an issue with the way it produces selfie shots. The users have reported that the selfies shot using the beauty mode tends to produce pictures with softer skin tone than normal. The issue seems to be caused by the algorithm which relies on company’s new smart HDR feature.
On the iPhone, since most settings are default, it is not possible to turn off beauty retouching, unless you turn off smart HDR completely. The problem has annoyed a lot of users especially when rivals such as Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 have stepped up their selfie game.
Poor WiFi and LTE Performance
The recurring issue, with the release of every new iPhone model, is poor WiFi and cellular connection. Some lab tests have revealed that the new iPhone models have disappointing radio frequency performance compared to previous models. All of the problems mentioned above have different effect depending on your use case. However, most users seem to have been affected by softer selfie pictures and charging issue the most.
