Logitech is one of the many manufacturers offering a wide range of gaming accessories, right from keyboards to mouse, headphones and more. And while the top-end gaming keyboards are incomplete without programmable backlighting, Logitech has made a good use of using the LED gaming keyboards to create a massive pixilated retro game display.
The company was recently at PAX East 2016 gaming festival in Boston, and to impress the assembled gamers and geeks, it created a giant pixel display using by putting together 160 G810 mechanical keyboards. One of the USP’s of this particular gaming keyboard is that it allows gamers to tinker around with its LED backlight to create colour palettes and animated patterns. Users can also personalize individual keys to create separate controller setups and layouts for different games.
Logitech teamed up with the design firm Iam8bit to create a retro style arcade shooter animation that makes the best use of the LED lights on these keyboards. The end result — you get scrolling series of game characters, Space Invaders, Asteroids, hearts and more. The screen, called as the ‘Great Wall of Logitech G’ was used to display images and messages during the PAX East 2016.
As you can see in the above video, Logitech has a pretty neat implementation, so much that you might actually forget that these are the LEDs on the keyboards. Logitech used 16 UE Megaboom speakers to accompany the “display” for sound.
