It is not just Google and YouTube that have been streaming the poll results live on the counting day for Lok Sabha Elections, Twitter too has introduced a hashtag for those who want to know the live status of the ongoing counting of voting results. Twitter users who tweet using the hashtag #raceto272 can now get a live update being sent to them. The social networking site has started sending pings to its users for letting them know about this feature and be updated about the election results. The hashtag has been dedicated to give real-time election results in response to users who tweet to @NDTVElections with the #Raceto272 hashtag. These responses will be in the form of tweets which will come with an infographic to show the status of the latest results.
Raheel Khursheed, who looks after Twitter s news and government partnerships in India, mentioned that Twitter has already received over 56 million elections related tweets from January 1 till date in 2014. According to Twitter, @NarendraModi garnered 3.97 million followers with a growth rate of 28 percent since January 1, and there have been 11.1 million tweets around him which makes his name as the most popular election related terms in 2014. BJP’s official Twitter handle @BJP4India has reached 0.49 million followers, recording a 70 percent increase since January this year. On the other hand, @ArvindKejriwal has reached 1.79 million followers now, up by 79 percent from the start of the year.
The social network had earlier launched the iElect app in partnership with TCS to let users get social insight in to the polls.
