A portion of the Majherhat bridge in south Kolkata, which is not far from the famed Kalighat temple, has collapsed. According to present reports, one person is feared to be dead and several are injured. The emergency service teams of the Fire Brigade and Kolkata Police report that many are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is in Darjeeling, has issued a statement on the topic and said that people have been rescued from the cars and that the emergency services are doing their utmost possible in the situation.
But for those that are on the site and those that want the best possible answers on how to get around the city at this time of emergency, or help those that have been wounded, here are three Android apps that they will find useful at this time of emergency.
Bondhu Kolkata Police Citizen
This app is the umbrella app for all the needs a general citizen can have from a police app. But that does not mean that it is not useful at this time of emergency. The Bondhu Kolkata Police Citizen app has traffic updates and even parking information that can be invaluable for those that just want to navigate the city at the moment and even for those that want to get to the affected area. Users can even reach out to the Kolkata Police personnel using this app.
This useful app shows all the emergency services like hospitals, blood banks and ambulance services near your current location on the map. It also provides the phone numbers of the services/organisations and can help to reach there with turn-by-turn navigation. Though there are other uses of the app such as essential services, it can be of great help in the present situation.
Kolkata Sub Urban Trains
This app is basically a diary of the public transport that is available in the city and that includes not just the local trains, but also buses, ferries and the Metro. It comes with a map of the Metro as well which will help anyone who is not familiar with the geography of the city. It’ll be useful if you’re trying to get around right now, even if you aren’t directly affected by the bridge collapse.
