Late last night, Twitter rolled out a new emoji dedicated at Prime Minister Narendra Modi s Make in India initiative. While Twitter has rolled out emojis for teams during World Cups, and Coca Cola more recently, this is the first time a non-US brand has got an emoji. The announcement comes on the back of commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman s visit to Twitter s headquarters in San Francisco. The emoji features the lion associated with the Make in India initiative against an orange backdrop.To use this emoji to your tweet, you can add the hastag #MakeinIndia. Make in India is a buzz word in the technology space, and companies are all announcing plans to manufacture their products in the country. Indian smartphone companies like Micromax, Karbonn and Lava have been announcing their investment plans to ramp up production, while international companies are tying up with the likes of Foxconn to manufacture smartphones here.
Companies like Asus, Alcatel, Canonical, and Vivo have revealed plans of eventually starting production. Others like OnePlus, Gionee and Xiaomi, on the other hand, have partnered Foxconn to manufacture smartphones. Lenovo and Motorola too will be manufacturing smartphones at their Sriperambudur plant in Chennai.
