Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai’s) new regulations related to pesky text messages and calls have kicked into effect from today. Subscribers can now opt out of getting any spam SMS by sending a text message to 1909 with the keywords START 0. All telemarketing calls will come from numbers starting with 140, which will make it easy to identify such a call. The regulations also bar any such calls or text messages after 9 PM and before 9 AM. However, the new regulations have also imposed a cap on the number of text messages that can be sent from any number in a day to 100, beyond which the carrier will disable SMS service to that number for the day.
