Maruti Suzuki has rolled out an update for its Smartplay-equipped vehicles, which were until now available only with Apple CarPlay infotainment system. Top spec variants of the previously manufactured Maruti vehicles like Ciaz, Ertiga, Baleno and S-Cross are available with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, can be updated at the nearest Maruti Suzuki service center, Team-BHP reports. After the process has been completed, users will be able to connect both Android and Apple smartphones.
The 2.5GB software update will allow Android users to connect their devices to the car’s system through the USB port, and the screen will offer a stock Android UI on the 7-inch standard touchscreen with Google Maps, Play Music, Contacts, and all the necessary widgets.
The recently launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire and urban compact hatchback Ignis are available with Apple Carplay and Android Auto with the factory manufacturing itself. It was anyways necessary for Ignis to be available with all the connectivity options as the company has pegged this as a product meant for the millennials. As far as the 2017 Dzire is concerned, the latest offering from Maruti ought to have the latest tech so it made its way to the compact sedan as well.
This update is a welcome move from Maruti Suzuki India Limited as a huge chunk of smartphones in India run on Android, and this helps increase the utility of the infotainment system in Maruti cars. This thoughtfulness might have pulled in more buyers towards the new models, but this act is likely to keep the existing buyers also in the Maruti family for long.
