But these companies primarily plan to cater to the premium segment with its 5G tech with the Qualcomm baseband, but it seems like MediaTek is planning to bring the 5G tech to the masses.
MediaTek has come out with its plan to introduce the 5G technology on phones for the budget segment. MediaTek has announced its 5G prototype chip at an exhibition in Taiwan. It has announced that a full 5G capable processor will be introduced by the end of 2019.
This makes MediaTek a newcomer to a very exclusive club of companies that have been working on 5G technology. The other companies that have been present in the 5G scene include Qualcomm, Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung. These companies have not only worked on 5G chips but other network equipment as well.
MediaTek has announced its very first 5G baseband M70 that uses the very latest 7nm manufacturing process and supports 3GPP Release 15 and has a transfer speed of 5Gbps, according to a report by GizmoChina.

MediaTek demonstrated the capabilities of its 5G processor prototype with its internally integrated 5G baseband at the 60th anniversary of Integrated Circuits at Taiwan. MediaTek says that the 5G baseband integrated with the SoC will decrease the cost of the 5G phones. MediTek has officially announced its 5G strategy which makes it clear that the company will not be venturing into the premium segment with this technology.
