MediaTek MT6739 quad-core SoC unveiled at India Mobile Congress 2017

The new chipset is designed for entry-level and mid-range smartphones.

At the ongoing India Mobile Congress 2017 in Delhi, Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek debuted its new MT6739 SoC. The chipset is designed for India s rapidly growing 4G market, and it is targeted at entry-level and mid-range smartphones. In terms of specifications, the MT6739 SoC has a 64-bit architecture. It is a quad-core chipset featuring four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. With support for dual-SIM cards, 4G LTE and VoLTE, it comes with a WorldMode LTE Cat.4 modem. Dual camera setups are now becoming mainstream, even in mid-range smartphones, and MediaTek has added support for the same in the chipset. Also, with high-end smartphones going for edge-to-edge panels, MT6739 chipset supports HD+ displays with aspect ratio of 18:9. “Consumers expect smartphones to do more than ever before. That’s why we designed the smartphone chipsets with features to let you share, do and capture more and at the same time plug in less. Our latest offering in India allows OEMs and ODMs to create4G-entry smartphones that deliver premium features that provide high-end value at affordable prices,” Dr. Finbarr Moynihan, General Manager of International Corporate Sales, MediaTek said in a press release. Along with MT6739, MediaTek is also bringing the Helio P23 SoC to India. It features an octa-core configuration with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, and a GPU clocked at 770MHz. The chipset also comes with dual-camera support for two 13-megapixel sensors, or a single 24-megapixel sensor. Usual set of connectivity support for 4G LTE and VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS is also present. Similar to MT6739, the Helio P23 SoC based smartphones are expected to hit the India market by end-of-the-year.
