Chinese mobile handset manufacturer Meizu has finally introduced the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus in China. The devices are based on a 10-nm Snapdragon 845 chipset at a frequency of 2.8 GHz. Meizu has implemented on-screen gestures in FlymeOS interface that runs on the devices. Since Meizu hasn’t incorporated a notch or a fingerprint scanner on the front of the device, the 91.18 screen-to-body ratio stands out as impressive. The Meizu 16 is equipped with a 6-inch AMOLED display, while the Meizu 16 Plus has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display. The screens on both devices have an aspect ratio of 18:9 with Full HD+ resolution.
Meizu 16 and 16 Plus: Specifications
Apart from the design, the new Meizu smartphones has the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, and includes a 12MP (Sony IMX380, f / 1.8) + 20MP (IMX350, f / 2.0) dual-rear camera configuration, with 1.55 microns and phase + laser autofocus.
The main 12MP camera offers optical image stabilization, while the secondary 20MP camera offers 2x optical zoom. On the front, the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus has a 20MP selfie camera module with ArcSoft algorithms and AI face recognition and stereo speakers. The Meizu 16 has a 3010mAh battery, while the Meizu 16 Plus has a 3640mAh battery with both supporting quick charge.
Meizu 16 and 16 Plus: Software
The Meizu 16 incorporates the latest version of FlymeOS, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo with integrated on-screen gestures. In the earlier models, Meizu integrated gestures in the navigation button, which it referred to as mBack. This has now changed with the new Meizu 16 and 16 Plus, and have been incorporated into the OS itself.
Meizu 16 and 16 Plus: Availability and variants
The Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus are available for pre-order starting today – August 8. Each model will be available in three versions. The Meizu 16 is available as 6GB RAM/64 GB variant for 2698 yuan (₹27,000 / $395); 6GB RAM/128 GB variant for 2998 yuan (₹30,000/$440). The 8GB RAM/128 GB variant is priced at 3298 yuan (₹33,000/$485).
Similarly, in the case of the Meizu 16 Plus, the 6GB RAM/128 variant costs 3198 yuan (₹32,000/$470), and the 8GB RAM/128 variant costs 3498 yuan (₹35,000/$510). The 8GB RAM/256 GB variant is priced at 3998 yuan (₹40,000/$585). Both devices are available in Black and White color options.
