After Xiaomi impressed the industry with its concept bezel-less smartphone Mi MIX, Meizu is ready to step up its game as well. Unlike other concept models, Xiaomi Mi MIX actually went on sale in China, and on its first flash sale, the smartphone was entirely sold out in just 10 seconds. Catching up to the similar trend, Meizu is anticipated to be working on its competitor for the Mi MIX, and if the rumours are to be believed, the handset will be made official by Meizu on December 24.
The image of this mysterious Meizu phone, recently surfaced on Weibo. It shows a smartphone with a high screen to body ratio. And if the pictures are to be believed, the Meizu phone will have an even higher screen to body ratio that the Xiaomi Mi MIX, as the latter serves up a bottom bezel, and the alleged Meizu model does not have one. In the image, there can be seen a fingerprint scanner embedded in the glass, which could possibly be Qualcomm’s ultrasonic scanner.
The reason why this does sound a bit believable, is that, in the set of images leaked online, there is one, which looks like a teaser from Meizu, with a tagline “Something unexpected is coming”, along with an announcement date of December 24, 2016.
If Meizu’s bezel-less phone is actually a reality, currently it only holds one competitor in the market, which would be Xiaomi’s Mi MIX, therefore it could be expected to be designed on the similar lines. Designed by famous Philippe Starck, the Xiaomi Mi MIX concept smartphone features a 6.4-inch near bezel-less display with screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent. The smartphone ditches the metal frame, and uses ceramic instead. Unlike other smartphones where the top has an earpiece, proximity sensor and selfie camera, the Mi MIX has a full screen on top. It uses advanced receiver-less sound transmission for delivering audio to your ears, and ultrasonic technology for proximity sensor, which is hidden below the display.
At the heart of smartphone runs Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. There is another ‘Pro’ variant with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The Pro variant has the camera ring and the fingerprint scanner ring made from 18K gold. To make more space for other components, Xiaomi has gone for a customized camera module that eats 50 percent less space.
It comes with connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE for HD voice calling, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. With USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8.
