While a big bunch of smartphone makers are already on board with large bezel-less displays, Meizu too seems to join the race, but a little later. According to a very recent leak, the Meizu MX7 will feature a display similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and will be launched by the spring of 2018.
The Meizu MX7 was spotted on a Chinese e-commerce website. The post revealed the design and certain specifications of the purported smartphone. From what we can tell from the leaked image, the smartphone will likely feature a fingerprint sensor at the back, since it houses no physical button on the front. Although, there are rumors that the Meizu MX7 might feature an under-display fingerprint sensor, something we were all expecting from the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone X.
Further, instead of an iPhone X-like notch, it features a sophisticated (narrow) bezel on the top of the screen, where sits the earpiece, the front camera, and a sensor. We can also notice the volume rocker and the power button placed on the right. At the back, we can spot a dual-camera assembly, though interestingly, the size of one camera looks smaller than the other. The LED flash too seems long instead of the usual circular one.
The leak also reveals that the Meizu MX7 will come in three variants, that will differ on the basis of their storage variant. There will apparently be options in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models. The listing spotted on the website also shows that the upcoming Meizu smartphone will be launched in four colors that is Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Cherry Powder and Matte Black. Under the hood, Gizbot speculates the Meizu MX7 to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset or a MediaTek Helio X30 processor. The listing also claims an estimate price of the device and quotes it to be between RMB 1,799 (Rs 17,800 approximately) and RMB 2,299 (Rs 22,700 approximately).
While most of the details above are speculations, there are two bits to this news that have been absolutely confirmed. For one that a device called the Meizu MX7 is under works, and two that it will launch next year. Yang Zhe, the Senior Vice President at Meizu took to Weibo yesterday to reveal that the company will not unveil the Meizu MX7 until spring 2018. In fact, he revealed that Meizu has no plans of launching any new smartphone this year.
To get a perspective, the predecessor of the Meizu MX7 was launched last year in July. The Meizu MX6 featured a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display and was powered by MediaTek’s 64-bit Helio X20 deca-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz (two Cortex A72 cores, eight Cortex A53 cores) paired with Mali-T880 GPU, along with 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage. It sports a 12-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 (Sony IMX386 Sensor), PDAF, LED flash and 4K video recording facilities. Up front, was a 5-megapixel camera of aperture f/2.0 for selfies and video calling. The Meizu MX7 was released at a price of RMB 1,999 (which is approximately Rs 20,100), but the device never made it to the Indian market, and it is quite likely that even the Meizu MX7 will not.
