The Meizu Pro 7 has been in the rumor mills for quite sometime now, and one of the talking points is expected to be a secondary display. While there have been dual display devices in the past, with LG V series being the most popular of the lot, there haven’t been many smartphone makers keen on the design. A secondary display gives the added functionality of being able to check notifications without having to unlock the actual display and save a lot of battery in the process. Most secondary displays use e-ink technology as it is more battery saving and Meizu Pro 7 was expected to feature the same, as previous leaks hinted. However, the latest leak spotted on Weibo, shows a color LCD secondary display instead of the traditional e-ink technology. The color LCD definitely improves the viewing experience, and also adds more functionality like being able to replicate the original display, adding widgets, gaming, selfies with rear camera, and others. The leak in fact also shows the game Pac-Man running on the secondary display in color. While the feature does seem interesting, it also raises questions regarding the device battery and the strain a dual-color LCD display will add to it. Meizu Pro 7 might come with a beefed up battery to meet the additional requirement.
This is not the first time a color rear display for the device has appeared in the wild. Previously too, another leak suggested a color rear panel for the Meizu Pro 7, though the leak, instead of showing the game had shown the front display mirrored on the rear. Meizu might be looking at a smaller display for the Meizu Pro 7 to function exactly as the main display, but utilize lesser battery. However, the use of the LCD display instead of AMOLED display might tax the battery further instead of easing the strain. The exact feature of the rear display will be understood post launch, and till then the rumors only add to the speculations. A second image shared on Weibo and GizChina also shows the smartphone rear panels in five colors — highlighting that the Meizu Pro 7 will either come in multiple colors or will come with additional cases. The five color are the more traditional black, gold and rose along with navy blue and a bright red panel. All the panels come with the cutout for the dual rear camera setup along with the rear secondary display, nearly confirming the feature. Before Meizu Pro 7, YotaPhone has long featured full-size dual displays on its smartphones.
The Meizu Pro 7 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch FHD (1080p) main display, running MediaTek Helio X30 SoC. Along with the secondary display, the phone also features a dual-camera setup. Both the cameras will come with 12-megapixel resolution, with the Sony IMX386 and Sony IMX286 sensors. The front camera will be 16-megapixel. Meizu Pro 7 will also feature a 3.5mm headset jack. Along with the Meizu Pro 7, Meizu is also expected to announce the Meizu Pro 7 Plus, which will come with similar features but a larger, 5.5-inch FHD display. Meizu has already shared invites for a July 26 event and the Meizu Pro 7 and Meizu Pro 7 Plus are expected to be announced at the event.
