Chinese smartphone maker Meizu has announced a new fast-charging technology at MWC 2017 expo in Barcelona. Called Super mCharge, the technology uses high-voltage direct charge method to quickly charge a 3,000mAh smartphone battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 20 minutes. Meizu s Super mCharge method uses 11V/5A charging to deliver powerful output of 55W. Output offered by Meizu is up to three times more than Qualcomm s Quick Charge 3.0 standard that delivers an output of 18W, and OPPO s VOOC technology that delivers output of 20W. Innovation isn t an easy job, but we believe that success comes from passion. We ve overcome numerous difficulties and obstacles to create the best technology for all, Meizu s R&D team supervisor Li Tao said in a press release. Having a fast charging solution is a good, but smartphones generally tend to get warm when charging quickly. While this can be a little unsafe too, Meizu mentioned that the technology is designed to keep temperature low during charging. The company further mentioned that the highest temperature it reaches is 39-degrees, which is slightly higher than body temperature. Meizu also mentioned that you can continue using the phone to watch movies play games while charging. Super mCharge is not only the fastest charging technology, but the safest one of all, Tao added.
Meizu s technology is based on Charge Pump Principle that applies two groups of conversion circuits to output half of the voltage. This not only helps to ensure charging efficiency from nine to 98percent, but also ensures a stable performance. According to the tests conducted by Meizu, the 3,00mAh battery retains about 80 percent capacity even after 800 charge and discharge cycles, giving it service life of over two years. At MWC 2016 (last year), OPPO demonstrated VOOC fast charging solution that can quickly charge a 2,500mAh battery in just 15 minutes. However, the technology hasn t made its way to any OPPO smartphone yet. Even today, Meizu just demonstrated how the technology works, but did not announce any device that will include this technology. We can expect the technology to make its way to upcoming Meizu flagship smartphones, followed by other devices.
