A Xiaomi Mi A1 unit is said to have burst into flames. A MIUI forum member reported about the incident on his friend’s behalf claiming that his Mi A1 caught fire while charging overnight. The complainant noted that the phone was kept for charging before going to sleep, which he has been doing since long. According to MIUI form thread post, the Xiaomi Mi A1 was purchased by the victim eight months ago. The night it caught fire during charging, it also had a protective casing on it which prevented the fire from spreading. The complainant and his friend have already reported this issue to Xiaomi, although there is no official word from the company as yet. To recall, Xiaomi had launched Mi A1 as first Android One smartphone in-partnership with Google. It was launched last year in September 2017, and the device came with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It had a 5.5-inch full-HD screen along with a dual-camera setup at the rear with two 12-megapixel camera sensors.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 has been discontinued in India, and the company has already launched the successor Xiaomi Mi A2. Prices for the new Android One smartphone start from Rs 16,999, and it is now available in open sale on mi.com and Amazon India.

Recently, the phone had received the latest Android 8.1 Oreo security update from Google for August. The changelog also noted to improve device stability and performance optimization.
