Today turned out to be a fairly interesting day in the tech world. The day began with the launch of a new Qualcomm chipset, and went into reports of Reliance Jio planning to increase the tariff plans in a few days. The day also came in with the rumors of Flipkart looking to raise stakes in BookMyShow, and the date of India launch of the Moto X4, which was earlier delayed. And then, the day ended with the launch of the Micromax Bharat 1. Here’s taking a quick look at these news.
To begin with, chipmaker Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 636 SoC for mid-range smartphones. An upgrade over Snapdragon 630 SoC that was launched earlier this year in May, the new chipset brings significant improvements across areas such as performance, gaming and displays.
Then, came in a report that claimed that Reliance Jio is likely to increase its tariffs by 24 percent in the coming few days. “We expect Jio to raise tariffs by 24% on its most popular plan (Rs 399) in the next few days, based on the pattern of its recent price hikes. We already expect Jio to take away promotions altogether by end of FY18 and any such move in the near term would be viewed positively by investors,” Goldman Sachs said in an analyst report.
Also made news today the reports of Flipkart being in preliminary talks with BookMyShow for a strategic partnership. Apparently, Flipkart investor Tiger Global is eyeing a significant minority stake in Bigtree Entertainment that owns BookMyShow, and would also buy out shares from another investor.
Then, after postponing the event once this month, Motorola India finally announced another date for the india launch of the Moto X4. According to a tweet by the company, the device will now be launched in India on November 13.
Finally, the day was wrapped with the launch of the Bharat 1 4G feature phone, which was launched as a product of the partnership between Micromax and BSNL. The feature phone is a first to come bundled with the BHIM app, and supports basic internet surfing. Google and Yahoo search are supported, and so are 22 Indian languages. The device is priced at Rs 2,200, and come with a Rs 97 BSNL unlimited plan. The feature phone goes on sale starting October 20.
