After a lot of teasers, Micromax has finally added a new smartphone to its last year’s Bharat series. Called Bharat 5, the smartphone has been launched for Rs 5,555, and will be available starting December 5 only in offline retail stores.
Additionally, with the release of Bharat 5, Micromax has partnered with Vodafone, under which, on the purchase of the smartphone, existing Vodafone customers who recharge for 1GB data, will receive additional 10GB data for the next five months.
As for the specifications, the Micromax Bharat 5 features a 5.2-inch HD IPS display, with 2.5D cover glass. Under the hood, the smartphone runs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, which is accompanied by 1GB of RAM, and 16GB on-board storage. The smartphone is equipped with a microSD card slot, which allows memory expansion to up to 64GB.
For photography, the Micromax Bharat 5 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with flash, and another 5-megapixel camera on the front, accompanied by an LED flash. Fuelling the smartphone is a massive 5,000mAh battery, which the company says can offer 500 hours on standby. For connectivity, it comes with features like OTG support, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.
At today’s event, Micromax also revealed that it aims to sell more than 6 million Bharat series smartphones by March 2018. Additionally, Micromax promised that the Bharat 5 will succeed with Bharat 5 plus and Bharat 5 pro in the next two months.
For perspective, the Micromax Bharat 5’s predecessor, the Bharat 4, was launched with features like a 5-inch HD display, and a MediaTek MT6737 SoC coupled with 1GB of RAM. The rest of the features included a 5-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, dual-SIM card slots, and a 2,500mAh removable battery. On the software front, the phone ran on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The smartphone was launched for Rs 4,999.
