For the 2017 edition, the Micromax Canvas 2 gets Android Nougat at its core which also makes it the company s first smartphone to run the latest OS. One of the biggest differentiating factor between the smartphones in comparison today is that the Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) is also available offline, which basically means you needn t wait for invites or flash sales to acquire the product. The smartphone is priced at Rs 11,999 and will hit the shelves within 2-3 days. As for the online consumer base, it will be available through Micromax s official website. The Vivo Y53 is priced at Rs 9,990, while the Lenovo K6 Power and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 both cost Rs 9,999. All these smartphones are primarily available through online e-commerce portals such as Flipkart and Amazon. However, given Xiaomi s recent venture into offline product sales, one could also buy the smartphone, but the Mi Home Store is still only limited to one Indian city.

Display

Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) feels a little primitive with its 5-inch HD display when competition is aiming to pump in higher resolutions even on smaller displays. Nonetheless, it features 2.5D curved glass on top for aesthetic value as well as protection.

Vivo Y53 is the only smartphone in this comparison list to boast a 5-inch quad HD display. Having a bigger display with lower resolution hampers the experience, whereas, even if the display is smaller but the resolution is higher, the whole experience reaches another level.

Lenovo K6 Power and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 both offer full HD resolution however the size of their displays varies. The K6 Power features a 5-inch display while Redmi Note 4 boasts the largest of all at 5.5-inch.

Hardware

Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) is incremental over its predecessor as it is powered by MediaTek s MT6737 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.3GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD card. On the software front, it runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box which also makes it the only smartphone in the comparison here to run the latest OS. It is fuelled by a 3,050mAh battery. Vivo Y53 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, which is further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. Keeping the things running is a 2,500mAh battery.

Lenovo K6 Power is equipped with Qualcomm s Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage which can be expanded using a 128GB microSD card. It is a battery-centric smartphone and houses a 4,000mAh battery. ALSO READ: Lenovo K6 Power Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 runs on Qualcomm s Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Amongst the competing devices here, the Redmi Note 4 houses the maximum battery of 4,100mAh.

Vivo Y53, Lenovo K6 Power, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 all run the older Android 6.0 Marshmallow with custom skins layered atop. All smartphones are 4G capable and offer dual SIM support. Except for the Vivo Y53, all others feature a fingerprint sensor. On paper, if you look at it, Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) has a newer OS but doesn t allow for storage expansion beyond 64GB.

Camera

Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera along with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling.

Camera configuration of the Vivo Y53 is perhaps the lowest amidst competition in terms of megapixel count. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with ultra HD mode along with a 5-megapixel front camera. ALSO READ: Dual camera smartphones under Rs 30,000 in India: Honor 6X, Micromax Dual 5 and more

Lenovo K6 Power also sports a 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensor rear camera along with an 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 front facing camera. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 features a 13-megapixel PDAF rear camera with a 5-megapixel front camera.

On the whole, if you look at the three smartphones above, they more or less boast similar specifications, with minor differences of battery or storage on board. While Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Lenovo K6 Power have both been ranked as tested performers, we are yet to see how the newly launched Micromax Canvas 2 (2017) battles against its contemporaries.

Additionally, if you are willing to spend a little more, you can get the Honor 6X (priced at Rs 12,999) which is one of the few smartphones under a budget to offer a dual-rear camera module. The Coolpad Cool 1 is also an option one could consider. It is priced the same as the Honor 6X and has on offer 4GB of RAM and a full HD display.
