Micromax’s next-in line Canvas smartphone is set for launch and if the latest leak is any testimony, it is set to be quite different from its predecessor. As per DroidGoblin, the Canvas 5 will be the first smartphone in the company s portfolio to run on CynagenMod, and will be launched later this year below the Rs 22,000 price point. As far as the specifications are concerned, the Canvas 5 will reportedly flaunt a 5-inch full HD display and will be powered by a MediaTek octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Additionally, it is also likely to feature 16GB internal storage, microSD card support, 18-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone will run on CyanogenMod (based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat) out of the box. CyanogenMod is a popular custom ROM for Android devices that has recorded over 12 million active installs on a multitude of devices till June 2014. As mentioned above, the smartphone is likely to be priced below Rs 22,000.
Meanwhile, Micromax had launched its predecessor Canvas 4 Plus online for Rs 16,750 just last month. It features a 5-inch HD (1280 720 pixels) display, 1.7GHz MediaTek (MT6592) octa-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 13-megapixel rear camera, Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and a 2,000mAh battery.
