As expected, Google today launched Android One in India. The smartphones launched are called Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO, and the Karbonn Sparkle V. They will be available on Amazon India, Flipkart and Snapdeal respectively, and in terms of pricing, the Dream UNO is priced at Rs 6,299, Sparkle V at Rs 6,399, and the Canvas A1 is priced at Rs 6,499.
As far as specifications are concerned, all three smartphones offer the same specifications. They flaunt a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) display and are powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphones also include a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, FM Radio, and a 1,700mAh battery.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and on the software front, they run on Android 4.4 KitKat. Google has also promised that these smartphones will be some of the first smartphones to get the Android L update.
Google has also partnered Airtel to offer buyers with special data plans. These plans include free OTA updates, and 200MB per month worth of app downloads from Google Play for the first six months.
As mentioned above, these new smartphones will be available on e-commerce sites like Amazon India, Flipkart and Snapdeal. They will also be available in brick and mortar stores early October. Google also announced that it has partnered Acer, Alcatel Onetouch, Asus, HTC, Intex, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Xolo to launch more Android One smartphones.
