Micromax Canvas Mega 2 Plus reportedly launched in India, priced at Rs 7,499: Specifications and features

The smartphone comes with minor upgrades to the Canvas Mega 2, which was launched last year.


It’s been a while since we heard from Micromax. The company last launched the Canvas Spark 4G with 5-inch HD display for Rs 4,999 in November last year. Now, adding to their Canvas lineup is yet another smartphone which goes by the name Canvas Mega 2 Plus. According to mobile retailer Mahesh Telecom, the smartphone has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 7,499. However, the exact availability date of the device isn’t known.

The Micromax Canvas Mega 2 Plus, as the name suggests is the successor to the Canvas Mega 2 which was launched in May last year for Rs 7,999. The latest phablet is nothing but a minor update over its predecessor. The look and feel of the smartphone remains the same with duo speakers up front. The back of the device has a textured finish, and a Saturn ring camera module. The power buttons and volume rocker can be found in the right edge of the device.

Micromax Canvas Mega 2 Plus specifications

The Micromax Canvas Mega 2 Plus features a 6-inch qHD IPS display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. Under the hood the smartphone is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is further expandable with a microSD card.

On the camera front, the Canvas Mega 2 Plus sports an 8-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and a microUSB port. Armed with 3,000mAh battery the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Additionally, users will get a free Reliance Jio SIM on every purchase as an introductory offer.

In comparison, the Micromax Canvas Mega 2 flaunts a 6-inch qHD (960×540 pixels) display. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. The phablet sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front-facing 5-megapixel selfie camera and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

While Micromax has been quite for few quarters now, we have been hearing that the company might soon announce new series of smartphones called ‘Bharat’. As per rumors doing the round, the smartphones under this series will pack basic specifications and runs on Android OS. The smartphone will offers 4G LTE connectivity and is expected to be powered by Spreadtrum processors. Reports also suggests that the phones will be costing approximately Rs 3,500. However, the company has not yet announced the series officially and hence we suggest you to take this piece of information with a grain of salt.

The Canvas Mega 2 Plus finds itself pitted against Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3s Prime and Reliance Digital LYF Wind 2.

The Redmi 3S Prime priced at Rs 8,999, features a 5-inch HD IPS display. Under the hood, it runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB. For photography, the Redmi 3S Prime sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. On the other hand, the LYF Wind 2, which is priced at Rs 8,999 sports a 6-inch IPS display with HD (1280×720 pixels) resolution. The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz MediaTek 6735M quad-core processor along with 2GB of RAM. Also on offer is 16GB of internal storage. The smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel camera with beauty mode and face detection. Armed with a 2,850mAh battery, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It supports connectivity options like 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, OTG support, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and a microUSB 2.0 port.
