There was a time when Micromax was known for launching phones with great features at pocket friendly prices, giving deals that its competitors couldn’t generally match…until the arrival of Moto G. The newest phone from Motorola not just left the market dumbfounded but also its own retailer. So how does Micromax, almost a veteran in this game of entry level and midrange Android phones, avenge? Well, by launching the Canvas Power A96. Also Read - How to download FAU-G mobile game on Android phone, iPhone
Powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, the A96 looks closely matched to its competitors. It gets a 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory but the external memory is expandable up to 32GB with the use of a microSD card, and a 5-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) screen. Primary camera is a fixed-focus 5-megapixel unit, which comes with a flash and the ability to record 720p videos, while the front-facing camera is a 0.3-megapixel unit. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and its USP is a 4,000mAh battery, which Micromax claims can survive 450 hours on standby mode. Priced at Rs 9,900, the dual-SIM phone looks like a good buy for those wanting a phone with decent specs but on the right side of Rs 10,000. Let’s see how it holds up against the Xolo Q1000 Opus and the recently launched but better specced Gionee M2:
All three phones, Canvas Power A96, Xolo Q1000 Opus and Gionee M2 are closely matched. They run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, powered by quad-core processors, with Canvas Power A96 and Gionee M2 powered by a 1.3 GHz processor while Q1000 Opus gets a 1.2GHz unit. RAM-wise, both Xolo and Gionee have the edge with 1GB of RAM, which is double than what the Micromax offers at 512MB.
Screens (both size and resolution) are identical, but not the cameras. Gionee M2 offers an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front unit, which in comparison to both Canvas Power A96 and Xolo Q1000 Opus’ 5-megapixel unit, is better. Battery life is where the Q1000 takes the beating, with a 2,000mAh battery, it is nowhere close to the A96’s 4,000mAh unit and M2’s 4,200mAh battery.
While the Opus is about Rs 1,000 cheaper than Canvas Power A96, the Gionee M2 is costlier at Rs 10,999.
