Micromax today launched the Canvas Xpress 4G in India. Priced at Rs 6,599, the Xpress 4G  is among the most affordable smartphones to feature 2GB of RAM. It will however face a stiff competition from other smartphones in this segment boasting a similar set of specifications. These include the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, and Lenovo A6000 Plus among others. We compare the Canvas Xpress 4G with the Redmi 2 Prime and A6000 Plus in terms of specifications and features to see how Micromax’s newest smartphone fares.

Price: The Lenovo A6000 Plus is the most expensive device in this comparison with a price tag of Rs 7,499. It is followed by the Redmi 2 Prime, priced at Rs 6,999 and the Canvas Xpress 4G, priced at Rs 6,599. The three smartphones are available quite easily online, while the Redmi 2 Prime is available offline as well.

Specifications and features: The three smartphones flaunt HD (1280×720 pixels) display. But, while the A6000 Plus and the Canvas Xpress 4G feature 5-inch screen, the Redmi 2 Prime has a slightly smaller 4.7-inch screen. The screen on the Canvas Xpress 4G is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi and Lenovo smartphones feature a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core chipset whereas Micromax’s Xpress 4G features a 1GHz MediaTek MTK6735P quad-core chipset. As mentioned above, the processors on all the phones are paired with 2GB of RAM.

It is a tie as far as the storage options are concerned, as all the three offer 16GB onboard storage. The three also offer the option to expand it using a microSD card.

On paper, the three smartphones are identical as far as their photography chops are concerned. The three feature an 8-megapixel camera at the back, and a 2-megapixel selfie camera up front. While in theory they are the same, real world performance is bound to differ and we will reserve our judgment till we have reviewed the smartphone.

Connectivity options on offer are the same as well with dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Micromax’s Canvas Xpress 4G runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, while the other two run on Android KitKat wrapped under their respective UIs.
