Only a few years ago, Micromax used to be a top player in India’s smartphone market, but that’s no longer the case. Even though Micromax sells everything from power banks to LED TVs today, the ever-growing popularity of Chinese players like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo has all but obliterated it from the country’s fiercely-contested mobile space.
However, it seems that the Gurugram-based company isn’t ready to give up yet. Having launched the YU Ace back in August, Micromax is now set to add another smartphone to its line-up.
The company has started sending media invites regarding an event scheduled for December 18. While the invite itself doesn’t say much, the outline of a smartphone it features reveals one key detail – a notch. While it may have been a bit late to join the party, it seems Micromax will finally launch its first notched smartphone next week.
An entry-level smartphone, YU Ace is powered by a MediaTek MT6739 SoC. There are two configurations – 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage – priced at Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,999 respectively. There’s also a dedicated expansion slot that can take up microSD cards of up to 128GB in size.
The smartphone features a 5.45-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It also runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box.

For imaging duties, the YU Ace has a single-lens rear camera setup, comprised of a 13-megapixel module and LED flash. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel module for selfies and video calls. All standard connectivity options are included in the mix, with a sizeable 4,000mAh battery rounding off the spec sheet.
