Micromax has sent out an invite for a launch event on September 1. The invite however is quite cryptic and doesn t reveal anything. The invite simply reads Witness the Democratization of the Technology followed by the date and time of the launch event. If we were to hazard a guess, the company could either launch an ultra-affordable smartphone or the first Android one smartphone. The Indian smartphone market has recently seen the debut of the Spice Fire One Mi FX 1 and the Intex Cloud Fx, two Firefox smartphones priced at Rs 2,299 and Rs 1,999 respectively. At this price segment the two smartphones are looking at changing the definition of ultra-affordable smartphones. With first time smartphone users in mind, Micromax too could be looking at launching a new device that is priced at Rs 2,000 or thereabouts. Currently, the cheapest Android smartphone you can buy in India is the Karbonn Smart A50S, which is priced at Rs 2,790.
The second scenario seems a bit farfetched, as the first Android One smartphones are believed to be launching in mid or the end of September. Android Chief Sundar Pichai is expected to be in India sometime next month to launch the smartphone. He will take the wraps off affordable smartphones developed by Micromax, Karbonn and Spice that run on stock Android.
