Micromax is on a roll. After hiring Hugh Jackman for the Canvas Turbo and revealing its intentions of entering European markets via Russia, the Indian smartphone brand is also planning to launch LTE and Windows Phone smartphones. In an interview with the Economic Times, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma revealed that Micromax would launch its LTE smartphones in December, ensuring a lead period of about six to eight months so users won’t have to change their smartphones when LTE networks are rolled across the country. “We want to establish ourselves on LTE and offer products that are LTE ready by December, so that consumers would not need to change their handsets whenever voice over LTE becomes available, be it six months or eight months later,” Sharma is quoted as saying. Micromax rival Xolo is also planning to launch an LTE smartphone in India next week. Also Read - Micromax In 1 first impressions: Solid competition for Poco M3
Micromax is also looking at launching smartphones running on Windows Phone platform. Sharma says that Micromax might launch Windows Phone smartphones sometime by the middle of next year. However, it remains to be seen how this strategy works out considering Nokia accounts for more than 80 percent of all Windows Phone devices sold and none of the other brands have found any success whatsoever.
