The battle in the low-priced smartphone market segment is all set to heat up with Micromax hinting the launch of its budgeted octa-core smartphone, the Unite Anthem A290, on Independence Day as part of its ‘Unite’ Series.
GizBot confirmed this by digging up a Zauba listing – a database for India’s import and exports – and finding out that the Indian tech giant had imported 17,000 units of Micromax Unite Anthem A290 this week.
Earlier, the very accurate @MMXNewscaster had leaked that the Micromax Unite Anthem A290 will come with a 1.4GHz octa-core processor, dual-SIM, 1GB RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. According to @MMXNewscaster, the device will feature an 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera and a 2,010mAh battery. It will come with 8GB of internal storage with expandable storage support via a micro SD card.
Fueling these rumors, Micromax released a teaser using hashtag #MicromaxUniteAnthem that has various artists working on a song titled ‘Roobaroo’ scheduled to release on Independence Day.
As the price of the phone is listed as Rs 7056 on Zauba, the rumored price of the new Micromax handset is said to be around Rs 10,000. Therefore the device, if released on Independence Day, will give tough competition to other low-budget smartphones like Xiaomi Mi3 and Asus ZenFone 5.
A recent market research report suggested that Micromax has toppled Samsung as the country’s largest mobile phone vendor in the second quarter this year, a claim that Samsung contests.
