Earlier this week, we had reported about Microsoft s plans to enter the smartwatch market and compete with Apple and Samsung s upcoming watches. The report quotes a reliable source who claims that the company has indeed been prototyping a smartwatch and the teams who worked on accessories for Xbox and Kinect have been given the responsibility to develop and test this wrist-worn device. According to the source, the smartwatch sports a 1.5-inch display and includes features like removable bands and magnetic power connector. The connector sounds similar to the one seen on the Surface tablets and will most likely be used to transmit power and data.
Let s remind you that the device is still in the prototype phase and hence most of the above mentioned features may or may not make it to the final product. That said, it will be interesting to see what kind of device Microsoft finally releases and if it ll manage to succeed where companies like Sony have tried and failed.
