Microsoft is working to make internet access easier by launching its own SIM card for Windows 10 devices. The company has released an app called Cellular Data on Windows Store, which will work in conjunction with the SIM card. It will let users connect to mobile networks without needing a contract.

While the service is designed to work with Windows 10 devices, Microsoft hasn’t announced any plans yet, nor has it shared details on the markets where it will be launching the service. Users will have to buy plans from Windows Store, and a Microsoft Account will be required for the same.

Based on the availability, Microsoft may create its own mobile virtual network, which will allow users to connect with partner carriers. To begin with, Microsoft may launch mobile data plans to use within the country, followed by international roaming later.

For those unaware, Apple has also developed a custom SIM card for the iPad Air 2. Using the SIM card, users can switch between carriers, without needing to replace SIM cards. While Apple has tied up with some major carriers in the US and the UK, the facility is not available in India.

Similarly, when Xiaomi announced MIUI 7 in China, it had also introduced a unique MI Roaming app for users in China. It’s basically a virtual SIM card that can come handy when you are travelling abroad. This app lets users buy internet data packs directly from Xiaomi. Thanks to the MI Roaming app, users won’t need to switch SIMs.
