Microsoft holds a major event every year during the fall, and as expected it has announced the date for this year s major event, which is slated to be held on October 26. According to reports, Microsoft will be showcasing OEM partners’ Windows 10 devices, new Microsoft Surface device, and gaming-related updates. Reports suggest Microsoft is unlikely to launch the smartphone whereas the Microsoft executives have confirmed they have plans to introduce a new Microsoft Band fitness device this year. The main highlight of the October 26 event is going to be Windows 10 s new updates. Codenamed Redstone 2, the early builds have already been available to Insiders to test. According to reports, the update was supposed to be available to users this year, but has been shifted to an early 2017 launch due to some internal delays and new Surface hardware . The update was supposed to be an incremental update, but with Microsoft having more time in hand, it will be launched as a major one. The Redstone 2 update is expected to bring new features like Office Hub, a feature that will integrate Windows 10 and Office 365 together so that it makes accessing emails, documents, events and calendar easier.
OneClip, Microsoft s universal cross-device clipboard will be integrated into Office 365 and Windows 10, making it easier to copy and paste between the PC and phone. OneDrive File Placeholders are also expected to be featured in the Redstone update which will be now known as On-demand sync . More features include People Bar, which will show faces of contacts in the taskbar next to the system bar.
The Redstone 2 update for Windows 10 may be released along with hardware updates to Microsoft s Surface Pro and Surface Book devices. The second update, codenamed Redstone 3, is expected to arrive later next year. These two updates follow the first major update to Windows 10, which was codenamed Redstone 1 and it was the Windows 10 Anniversary update released in August this year. Furthermore, with the Redstone 2 update, there will be more focus on Windows 10 Mobile features, which will be evident in the Microsoft Continuum devices. Speaking of hardware devices, Microsoft is highly unlikely to launch any new smartphones this year. In fact, Microsoft may have discontinued the Band completely and is planning to phase out its fitness band devices. Microsoft s Surface Phone has probably been the longest rumored smartphone as news of the smartphone began since 2012 and has been going on and on.
As for the expected launches, we will probably see the launch of the Microsoft Surface All-in-One device going by the codename Cardinal.
