Microsoft is still to finalize the replacement for its outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer, but according to Reuters, it has shortlisted five candidates from its original list of 40. The five people who have been shortlisted include names like former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and Ford Motor Co chief Alan Mulally from external candidates. The list of shortlisted candidates also includes internal candidates like former Skype CEO and now business development manager Tony Bates and Satya Nadella, who currently heads the company’s cloud and enterprise business.
Earlier this year Steve Ballmer, who succeeded Bill Gates as Microsoft’s second CEO, announced he will be retiring from the company within a year. Ballmer gave an emotional farewell speech to fellow Microsoft employees at the company’s annual gathering.
