Microsoft has added support for a new language to its Translator app. Microsoft Translate now supports Tamil language adding to its list of 60 languages available globally. Tamil language is officially spoken in the South Indian side of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It extends abroad as well in Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. In addition to this, you can translate to and from Tamil in Bing Translator website, and PowerPoint add-ins. The language is also integrated into the built-in translation feature of Office 365 apps like Word, Excel, and Outlook. Coming to the Microsoft Translator app, it is available to download on Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms. Tamil isn’t the first Indian language supported on the app, as it already has translation support for Bengali and Hindi. Microsoft Translator app allows you to use the microphone to listen to the language spoken, and the translated text will show up on the app.
There’s also a built-in Phrasebook feature, which you can use to ask basic questions like getting directions, ordering food, and greeting people. Through Microsoft Translator you can also take pictures of restaurant menus, road signs, brochures or any other text and see the translated text in Tamil on the app. You can also use Microsoft Translator app to translate other text on your smartphone by highlighting the text.
In other Microsoft products like Presentation Translator for PowerPoint, it can display live Tamil translation during your ongoing presentation. In Outlook’s and Microsoft Edge’s Translator tool, you can translate to and from Tamil in over 60 languages. Microsoft has also added the ability on Word where you can translate an entire document.
