With only a day left for the beginning of official Diwali celebrations, technology companies have been looking for new ways to join the party. Microsoft, the leading software maker, is using its desktop operating system as the platform to reach millions of those celebrating the festival of light. The Redmond-based software maker has come up with Diwali theme called Festival of Lights for Windows users, currently available for download from Windows Store. All you would need to download this new theme is a Microsoft account to login to the Store and then the theme can be downloaded for free. The ‘Festival of Lights’ theme is a 12.39MB download and it comprises of 17 image set that show the peculiar characteristics of Diwali like oil lamps and flowers used for decoration. In order to download this theme, Windows users must have Windows 10 version 14951 or higher installed on their device. Microsoft notes that these images are to be used as desktop wallpaper only. The theme comes with a cheesy description, “You can almost smell the sweet night air, illuminated with the twinkle of oil lamps and vibrant flowers ibn this 17-image set, free for Windows 10 Themes.”
Diwali is one of the most important festival in the country and is even referred as festival of lights. With its new theme, Microsoft is tapping into that same notion and the images show a number of lighting patterns including traditional diyas, used by most folks at home.
Apart from Microsoft, e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon India are also celebrating festival of lights by offering discounts on products ranging from electronics to fashion. Xiaomi, the leading smartphone maker in the country, is also offering discounts on smartphones and other accessories.
