At its E3 2016 press conference, Microsoft has announced the new Xbox One S gaming console. The successor to the Xbox One, the new console is up to 40 percent slimmer compared to the Xbox One. It also features improved hardware, which includes support for 4K video output, up to 2TB of internal hard drive, HDR playback for gaming and video, and also comes with a new slightly modified Bluetooth controller. The new Xbox One S will set you back by $299 (approximately Rs 20,500) for the 500GB variant and will be launched in August. There will be a 1TB version for $349 (approximately Rs 23,900) as well as a limited launch edition with 2TB internal storage which will set you back by $399 (approximately Rs 27,200). Other improvements to the new Xbox also include integrated power supply (no more power brick, hurray!) to match the super-sleek aesthetics of the console and an altered disc drive that will allow you to keep the console vertical.
The new console will also allow Xbox One and Windows 10 Players to play together. The company also announced that Gears of War 4will be one of the first games with Xbox anywhere cross-platform play support.
So, when you buy the game for Xbox, you get the Windows version for free, and it can be played across both on the gaming console and the PC. Gears of War 4 will be released on October 11. There will also be a Gear-branded Xbox Elite Wireless Controller to go along with the console. Forza Horizon 3 with four-player campaign mode also announced, and it will be available on September 16.
Microsoft will also let you customize the Xbox controllers, where users will be able to pick color for the front and back, the triggers, buttons and more. The console maker has also made a bunch of software-based announcements such as language region independence and Cortana for Xbox One.
Xbox Live also gets new features in the form of Clubs – allowing users to create communities around specific games, Groups – allowing players to find people who would want to play similar games such as Minecraft or The Division online. There is also Arena, a new tournament platform allowing users to play solo or with their friends.
Cross platform play for Minecraft Realms between iOS, Android, Windows 10 and Gear VR devices is also coming soon. The company has also announced that Minecraft has around 14 million players, globally.
The makers of popular game Limbo are coming up with a new game called Inside. However, before the game comes out, Limbo is being made available for free to all Xbox One users.
