This happened as a result of the Prime Minister comparing Kerala with Somalia in terms of infant mortality rates among Scheduled Tribes. Among those who tweeted against the Prime Minister were mostly supporters of Congress and the Left.
Modi enjoys the second highest number of followers on Twitter among all world leaders. He was preparing to speak at an election rally in Kerala when the hashtag started trending and soon there were 25,000 tweets with the hashtag #PoMoneModi. The hashtag #Somalia is also trending with 15,000 tweets.
The Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy has also written a letter to the Prime Minister demanding that he should withdraw his comments because it is an insult to the state.
