Motorola just launched the Moto E5 and the Moto E5 Plus today. With a big battery and display, Motorola is trying to set the Moto E5 Plus as the ultimate entertainment device. However, with those features, the smartphone competes directly with the likes of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, which has already established itself as a great budget smartphone. Let’s quickly compare the two phones based on their pricing, specifications, features and find out if one of them can come out on top.
Pricing and availability
The Moto E5 Plus is priced at Rs 11,999 and will be going on sale starting July 11 midnight (12:00AM). It will be selling on Amazon India and Motorola’s Moto Hub retail stores. The new budget phone is available in Black and Gold color variants.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, on the other hand, comes in two storage variants 32GB and 64GB, both of which are priced at Rs 10,999 and Rs 12,999 respectively. The phone is exclusively available via Flipkart. The phone comes in Grey and Black color variants.
Display and battery
Both the Moto E5 Plus and the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 feature nearly 6-inch IPS LCD displays with a tall 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels. However, the Moto E5 Plus features a lower HD+ resolution of 1440×720 pixels, while the Zenfone Max Pro M1 features full HD+ resolution of 1080×2160 pixels.
Both smartphones also come powered by a similar 5,000mAh battery under the hood. It’s enough to last both phones more than a day on a single charge. Additionally, the Moto E5 Plus comes with Motorola’s Turbo Power fast charging standard built-in.
Specifications, operating system and connectivity
The Moto E5 Plus features a Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also features an expandable storage of 128GB. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 is powered by a faster Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC. The base variant of the device comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the higher-end variant of the device comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device features an expandable storage of whopping 2TB via a micro SD card slot.
Both the devices run Android 8.1 Oreo OS out-of-box, and offer a near stock Android experience. They also come with dual-SIM support, and connectivity options of 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 takes the lead here as it features a dual-camera setup at the back, comprising of a 13-megapixel primary sensor with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor for depth measurement. It also features an 8-megapixel camera at the front with an LED flash.

At the back, the Moto E5 Plus features a single 12-megapixel camera, which comes with an aperture of f/2.0 aperture. It is equipped with an LED flash, PDAF, and laser auto-focus technology. Like the Asus smartphone, it also carries an 8-megapixel camera up front, which features an aperture of f/2.2 and also comes with an LED flash.
