The much-awaited launch of the Moto G in India is scheduled for the last week of January, the Times of India reports. While the company refused to divulge the price, it reckons it would be priced competitively. The Moto G starts from $179 (approximately Rs 11,000) in the US. Motorola no longer has a sales office in India and the company has roped in an unnamed distributor to launch the Moto G in the country. Considering the brand has not been on store shelves for almost two years now, it would be a challenge for Motorola to make a comeback. However, what works in favor of Motorola is now it is a Google company and there is quite a lot of buzz for the Moto G in the country. One should also look out for how Motorola handles the after-sales service, which too would be outsourced. Also Read - Mi 12 Ultra to be a massive upgrade, can pack 200MP camera, Snapdragon 895 SoC
Motorola officials told the Times of India that the Moto G would initially be available only in certain markets in India, indicating a phased roll-out starting from key cities. At the global launch event, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside claimed that the Moto G provides premium experience with today’s technology at a third of the price of current phones that provide the same experience. The design principles are same as the Moto X with edge-to-edge display, a curved back, Gorilla Glass and nano coating inside and outside to protect it from water splashes. The Moto G has a 4.5-inch 720p display with 329ppi. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM to provide what Motorola claims is an all-day battery life and 33 percent more talk time than the iPhone 5S on 3G networks. It also has a removable back with interchangable shells. Motorola will also make flip covers and grips.
On the photography front, the device features a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options include 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual-SIM card slot (select countries).
The Moto G runs on Android 4.3 out of the box and Motorola has promised that the device will get Android 4.4 KitKat by January. Users will also get 65GB of Google Drive.
